In 2007 I performed Ganga puja on the banks of the American River in California. I offered into the river malas and other spiritually significant items that symbolized a relationship with a teacher that had come to an end. This is a traditional way of releasing and recycling energy so that it can be of benefit to others.

As I waded out into the river to make my offerings, the river seemed to tip toward me, filling my view with dazzling movement and light. In that moment I knew that all rivers are the Ganga. My relationship to rivers was changed forever.

Pandit Jasraj’s album Ma Ganga first came out in 2001. I’ve been in love with it since then. In this playlist, I’ve combined his offering with other wonderful tributes to Ma Ganga. Enjoy!'
