My initial response at the news was concern at the potential for scaling-up war crimes and fascist policies under the blessing and with the cover of a woman of color. Of course I want to live to see the meaningful and unhindered participation of women and other marginalized genders in politics. But girl boss imperialism is not a win. As always, appreciate your insights.

It's obvious, or should be, that ONLY people who have fully assimilated the values of Patriarchy and Empire are going to be allowed to play the game of government at the highest levels. If queer people, or women, or people of color - pumping their fists for "progress" - can be found to front for it, then what a nice PR win for the Empire!

I appreciate this message. It’s appalling that people are Yass kweening without even making demands about Gaza. And instead they are yelling at people who aren’t excited to vote for her. They are scolding people whose families have been slaughtered for “making it about them”. It’s deeply disturbing.

I’m Irish. I love many of my American cousins but I’ve always cringed at the naked imperialism clothed in the propaganda of American exceptionalism. The GOP rallying cry may be America First, but the Dems may as well be crying ‘Americans’ First. Scrape a little off the veneer of so many American liberals and you find barely concealed an ultra nationalist beneath. Trump is a manifestation of decades of unchecked hegemony around the world by the US. As we learned in Europe, Fascism is simply imperialism in your own backyard. It’s time American citizens owned him. Do not give your vote to either of these power groups until you see genuine change. I fear that Harris and her party are almost prepared to throw the US under the bus of Fascism by the current militaristic trajectory. If they lose, their legacy will be genocide in Palestine and a possible war with Russia.

Agree. But I don't think it is the bus of fascism. It's the pure political self-interest of people who have no bottom line. It might look like fascism, but they have no actual commitments or convictions.

It may not seem possible that I agree - almost entirely - with everyone here.

And yet - just questioning - just on the matter of climate change (I don't know; is it absurd to separate these out), on which I would assume everyone here agrees is real and deadly - is there any reason for anyone here to consider the magnitude of difference on this issue between the Democrats and Republicans?

I'm open to being wholly blind on this, but I find the wisdom here deep, and would like to hear other views.
